SCS - How long will my product stay fresh?

Many vitamins, probiotics and supplements containing animal products (like whey protein or fish oil) can degrade faster and lose effectiveness when exposed to excessive heat (greater than 120 °F), light, oxygen in the air, or humidity. Dried whole foods and herbal supplements are somewhat less susceptible to heat. Even under ideal storage conditions, supplements normally degrade over time, but this process is accelerated by poor storage conditions.

What is the best way to store my supplements?

The best way to store supplements is in a cool, dry place, and sealed tightly. Under these conditions most supplements retain full potency for around 2 years. After that time, they may naturally start to gradually lose potency.

What if I need to travel or store my supplements outside of their original bottle?

Keeping your supplements in a non air tight container for a short period of time should not degrade them unless they are subjected to excessive heat or high humidity. For example, if you are loading your pill container every few days and using them within a week they should maintain freshness and potency. However, we wouldn't recommend storing them in a non air tight container for periods longer than 5-7 days.

What is "excessive heat"?

Heat can also harm the potency and effectiveness of a variety of vitamins and other nutrients. However, degradation generally starts to occur in foods or beverages exposed to temperatures of greater than 120 °F.

What about light?

Light can also effect potency slowly over time, and to help combat this we use UV protected bottles to store our products.
